Food for the soldiers
It was considered a luxury to be able to eat in the trenches. With the constant warfare, it was hard to find a time to eat during the day, let alone enjoy the meal. Most of the food the soldiers got was stale or dry, and was not very appetizing. During stand-downs soldiers would be able to enjoy hot food from the field kitchens. Most of the time this was impossible. It may not have been the most horrendous experience that comes with war, but it certainly didn't help the soldiers in a positive way.
