Symptoms and Causes
Trench mouth is a painful form of gingivitis. It is caused by poor oral hygiene, poor nutrition, smoking and stress. Soldiers were faced with the painful, reddened and swollen, bleeding gums. For soldiers this was another added stress. Trench mouth made everything more difficult to eating and drinking and with standing the pain. Though, healing was a quick process if they get the right treatment.
